How to get smooth, acne and blackhead-free skin naturally!

Hello loves!

Today’s post is a beauty tip (or hack!) on how to exfoliate your face or body for smooth, acne and blackhead-free skin naturally!

There are SOOO many exfoliating products out there and for such ridiculous prices! The last sample I received of an exfoliating product had ingredients listed that I couldn’t even pronounce. Why bother spending a ton of money, when you can get the same if not better benefit of a natural product that is most likely right in your pantry (and only $2!)

Now this one might come to you a surprise…(or not)…but you likely have this product sitting in your fridge to keep smells at bay lol

Arm-Hammer-Pure-Baking-SodaAnd TA-DA! Here is the magic product….Baking soda! Now HOW does this product keep your face smooth, exfoliated and acne-free you ask?

  • Baking soda dries up acne and is a natural antibiotic that heals the skin. Its long term benefits include fading acne scars and speed the healing of acne damage.
  • Baking soda can help remove blackheads. When left on your nose (like a mask) for a few minutes, it loosens the tough skin so that you can easily extract the blackheads with a tissue….most of the time it just does the trick after I wash it off!
  • Baking soda keeps oily skin at bay and prevents pores from clogging up. It provides a beautiful smooth canvas for makeup application.

I usually mix a small amount into my daily face wash but you may not need to use it every day. My skin is quite oily and I do wear a lot of makeup, so I need to exfoliate often.

If you have never tried this before, or if you do not regularly exfoliate…complete a patch test in a small area first to ensure you don’t have any reactions. If you do not have a reaction then you can mix a tiny amount (about the size of a pea) of baking soda in to your face wash no more than 2 times a week.

It is important not to leave the baking soda on your skin for too long. I try to stay away from “Baking soda masks” as it can irritate your face due to the pH and acidity of the product. You can get some for cheap here!

There are so many other uses for baking soda as well…you can add it to shampoo to keep flakes or dandruff away and to exfoliate product build up on the scalp….you can add it to your toothpaste to whiten your teeth (not often though!) I use it to exfoliate and soften my nails and cuticles… It’s an all around great product 🙂

What types of exfoliating products do you use? Have you ever thought of using baking soda? Try it out and let me know your thoughts! 🙂

My Beauty Secret For Natural Glowing Skin

Hey lovelies!

I am giving away my #1 beauty secret…yup…I love you that much ;D

I’ve been planning to write this post for a loooooong time, so here we go!

For the past three-four years, I have been using a miracle essential oil/water that is SO good for the skin and super inexpensive to buy…

81N5qlwbNrL._SL1500_Unknown-1

Pure Organic Rosehip seed oil  which is only $6!

and I LOVE Mario Badescu’s rosewater spray which is $7

The benefits of Rosehip seed oil and rose water on the skin are incredible and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone:)

I use the pure rosehip seed oil as a moisturizer in the morning before makeup application and in the evening before bed. You can also mix a 1-2 drops of the oil into your foundation to give you a beautiful, youthful, glow from within look. NO, this will not make your skin oily! I have oily-combo skin and this does not make me greasy or shiny. You can try with one drop at first to see how you like it. I also use this as an eye makeup remover or on any (healed) cuts/scars I might have.

Rosehip Seed Oil Facts:

  • Extracted from the seeds of a native rose plant which grows wild in Chile
  • Naturally contains vitamin A, C, & E (all wonderful anti-aging essentials)
  • High in essential fatty acids
  • Was used by Ancient Egyptians, Mayans and Native Americans for its healing properties

Benefits of Pure Organic Rosehip seed oil:

  • Corrects UV damage from the sun
  • Naturally tones the skin
  • Minimize appearance of wrinkles
  • Prevents scarring and stretch marks
  • Reduce fine lines
  • Rejuvenates skin cells
  • Dramatically improves skin moisture levels
  • Reduces stress naturally!
  • leaves the skin looking radiant and with a healthy glow

Now…the Rosewater Spray…

I mist the rosewater all over my face before makeup application, and spray on to my beauty blender to blend out my concealer and foundation. I spray the rosewater on eyeshadow and highlighter brushes before dipping in the product, to give a more pigmented, brighter look. I will also spritz it all over my face after makeup application to set and remove any powdery residue…as well as spraying it all over for an all natural beautiful smelling fragrance!

Benefits of Organic Rosewater Spray

  • Tones and softens delicate skin
  • Relieves stress
  • Improves circulation
  • Lessens acne
  • Help prevent wrinkles
  • Help maintain youthful glow
  • Awakens the senses
  • Brightens complexion
  • Cleanses pores
  • Uplifts mood
  • Tightens pores

And THIS my friends, is why I use Rosehip seed oil and Rose water for EVERYthing. Try it out for yourself and let me know how you like it!

The exact products I use are here and here.

I wish you all happiness and beautiful glowing skin…always! ❤

Going Green for 2016

Hi Everyone!!

I hope you all have had a great start to the year! In this post, I want to talk about something that I have been thinking about for a while now…Going green aka going natural with beauty products!

I’ve been doing a lot of research on beauty products out there and…it is INSANE how many toxins and chemicals are in the products we use every day 😦 Including toothpaste, shampoos, etc!! Obviously, I think it’s impossible to go 100% green…but I can definitely look at ingredients and ensure that the big no-no’s are not on the list.

IMG_2794

(Wearing Bite Beauty Matte Lipstick in Cognac! One of my faves and all natural!)

I started going the more natural route with skin care, deodorant etc…but it has taken me a long time to do so with makeup! The most difficult part I think, is throwing away all the money I have spent!!!

What I currently use in my beauty regimen:

For a few years now, I have been using

  • Deodorant: Tom’s deodorant which is natural and aluminum free here
  • Face Wash: Neutrogena Naturals face wash (although I am switching to a fragrance free, more natural product as I don’t think this one is very good)
  • Nuxe Rose Petal face wash here
  • Toothpaste: Nature’s Gate here
  • Face Moisturizer: Organic cold pressed Rose Hip seed oil here (My next post will be a review on this AMAZING oil!!)
  • Exfoliator Face/Body: Baking Soda (It’s amazing at keeping acne away and keeps your face as smooth as a baby’s bottom!)
  • Body/Hands/Cuticle Moisturizer: Good old fashioned tub of Coconut Oil here
  • Makeup Primer/Set: Organic Rosewater spray here
  • Lip balm: Bite Beauty Agave Lip mask, coconut oil or Vitamin E here
  • Soap: Royal Herbs Natural Honey & Oatmeal soap here
  • Shampoo & Conditioner: Nature’s Gate here

I suspect transitioning my makeup will be a bit more difficult as I have to do some more research on product ingredients. Basically, the main things I want to avoid are: Parabens, Phthalates, Lead and Sulfates as well as ensuring products are cruelty-free.

Sephora is pretty good with listing product ingredients and if they are formulated without the  cancer causing junk….so I feel that that’s a good starting point. So far, I  have found that Tarte, Bite Beauty, Urban Decay and Kat Von D are some of the many brands that formulate products without parabens and are cruelty-free.

I have a feeling this is going to be heartbreaking as I am sure many of the products I own should be tossed (ahem, Anastasia Beverly Hills) 😦 After doing a ton of research, I found that Anastasia Beverly Hills does not even disclose what the ingredients are in her lipsticks and glosses and I can’t find them anywhere on the net! Based on the product ingredients I have seen on Sephora…it doesn’t look good.  Ingredients in her contour kit and brow products include talc, parabens, phthalates..I have emailed the company asking for the lipstick/gloss ingredient list.

This topic is obviously a bit overwhelming and can drive me nuts! It will be an ongoing work in process. I am definitely going to take this a bit more seriously this year…as I use a TON of products on a daily basis. I do think, however, that if you use all makeup but go a more natural route for skin care…it is one step towards the right direction.

Have you thought about going green? What products do you recommend or are you wanting to try out?

Kitty Cat Halloween Make-up!

HISSSSSSSSSSSS! Meeeoooow!!

IMG_2460

BOO! Hope I didn’t scare ya ;-D

This look was SUPER popular, so I definitely had to create a blog post for it 😀 Halloween is near and it has always been my favorite time of the year…. Although, I feel that I have become much more of a scaredy cat these days lol (no pun intended :D) But I do love Halloween because I get to play around with all kinds of different makeup looks! Here is my inspiration for this kitty cat makeup look:

FullSizeRender 5

She’s a cutie right??!

Anyway…I went to fright night in Vancouver last night, which is filled with haunted houses, monsters, and crazies! Of course, I was chased as usual! Never fails! This year, I don’t plan on going out for Halloween night…back when I lived in LA, I used to go out every single year but I feel as though creating these makeup looks at home with a glass or two of wine is just as fun for me 🙂

SO! I decided to go with a super blended black smokey eye for this look as it just seemed perfect. The liquid liner I placed on my bottom lash line definitely gives more of a dramatic cat eye effect. I also like to use this technique on any other makeup look to give it the eyes a bit more drama and an elongated effect.

Now before I go into my makeup details, I DO have to rave about The Kat Von D tattoo liner in “Trooper” Honestly, this eyeliner is AMAZING! If you don’t have it, I suggest going out right now and buying it! You will NOT be disappointed. This liner is perfect for anyone from a beginner to a pro. The tip of the brush is phenomenal…it allows for such precision and essentially creates the perfect line or wing effortlessly. I used the liner for my eye details as well as for the whiskers and dots on my face. I am planning to get the liner in brown as well because it would be perfect for day time.

Make-up Details!!!

  • Murad invisi-blur primer, anti-aging treatment and SPF serum..amazing stuff!!! here
  • Dr Brandt Pore no more on T zone (You can do either this one or the Murad OR both, but if you want more bang for your buck go with Murad) here
  • Loreal Visible Lift foundation…flawless gorgeous coverage, photographs beautifully…gives a dewy glow (not recommended for oily skin in warmer climates)…I mentioned it was discontinued but I found it on Amazon YAY!!!!!! here
  • Nars creamy concealer in “Custard” here and Mac Prep and prime highlighter here blended with damp beauty blender (You can use either but the Mac prep and prime gives more of a brightened, highlighted effect)
  • Laura Mercier Translucent setting powder here
  • Kat Von D Shade + Light contour palette here
  • Kat Von D Tattoo liner in Trooper for eyes/face/nose details…you can also use any black eyeliner pencil

A Fall Perspective & Make-up look!

Happy October beautiful people!!!!

I actually couldn’t be happier that it’s October 😀 As I’m sure you all know by now, fall is my absolute faaaaaaaaavorite season! I never knew this until I moved to Vancouver. I remember visiting Vancity during the fall and being completely drawn to the trees, all the colors and leaves falling to the ground. I used to think hot, sunny, summer weather with no seasons was the best…but unfortunately you miss the beauty of seasons when you live in sunny Southern California! Fall quickly became a season I adored living in Vancouver and I look forward to it every year.

Each year, on a nice sunny fall day, I grab a Starbucks and take a long walk by myself. It’s a time where I can simply be present, take in the beauty of life, and of nature. It’s a time where I can be thankful that I am alive and well, while appreciating how far I have come and everything and everyone I have in my life. It’s so easy to forget all of this in the hustle and bustle of a busy life. I used to think that I was drawn to fall simply because of the colors and leaves but I found that there is a much deeper meaning behind my admiration for this special season.

Bear with me here as I give you my perspective 🙂 As I’m walking through the park, the leaves are falling over my head and while I am stepping on the many leaves that are on the ground… I can’t help but feel that this is a time of renewal and an end to the present year. I feel that each leaf that falls is a part of me that I’m leaving behind. We are constantly growing and changing each year and I feel that fall really symbolizes this. So whatever it may be that you’re leaving behind this year…negativity, old jobs, old friends, maybe things or ideas that haven’t worked out…whatever that has happened to change you as a person…simply picture the leaves falling and that you’re moving forward. A new year full of opportunity, happiness, experiences and excitement is headed our way friends!

IMG_2180

NOW! On to the make-up of course! If you’ve made it this far, you rock! lol Here is a look I created last weekend 🙂

IMG_2181

Dark purple/black smokey eye and blending tips!

Hi loves! 😀

I’m back again with another post!! I am making sure to give you lovelies enough makeup/beauty fun to last as I am going to be pretty busy for the next little while.

I was recently accepted into a Medical Aesthetics program to become certified to provide non-invasive medical treatments for cosmetic purposes (You must be a doctor or nurse to apply). Such treatments include Botox, chemical and facial peels, fillers and lasers etc. I am actually VERY excited to start, as this is combining my love for beauty and skin care with my nursing career! 🙂 I want nothing more than to make people feel and look the best that they have ever felt! 😀

This is the dark purple/black smokey eye I created the other day:

IMG_2098

IMG_2096

I’ve always loved the look of a super black smokey lid with a lighter color blended in the crease…especially purples and pinks! When I was younger, I used to just slap on a bunch of black eyeshadow all over my lids and call it a night LOL I never, ever blended anything in and never used any transition colors. I’ve definitely learned that applying a few transition colors such as a lighter brown or nude helps make the black shadow flawless and easier to blend. You never want to apply a dark shadow on your lid without a base nude or lighter color underneath. So what I did for this look was…

  • First apply a wash of a nude/beige color (Fresh) from the lid to the brow bone with a fluffy brush.
  • Then I added a light brown color (Bengal) into the crease with the same brush…
  • Wet a small flat brush and pat in the black shadow (Noir) then pack it on the lid (a wet brush gives more vibrant color)
  • I then used the fluffy brush to blend, blend, blend out the black harsh lines with the purplish color (Sangria)

2657645

I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Tamanna palette for this look. I really love Anastasia products…she does a wonderful job! These eyeshadows are SUPER pigmented and the black one (Noir) is no joke…it is literally the blackest most pigmented shadow I’ve ever used. You barely need to dip your brush in, it’s amazing. ***This palette is currently not available but ALL of the eyeshadows are being released as singles next month! I would HIGHLY suggest getting your paws on “Noir” as a single must-have black eyeshadow***

Makeup details!

  • Ginzing eye cream and face moisturizer… here and here
  • Dr Brandt Pore no more primer…instantly mattifies and shrinks pores here
  • Loreal Visible Lift foundation…flawless gorgeous coverage, photographs beautifully here Unfortunately the one that I have has been discontinued (I stocked up on my last LA trip) but here is the alternative product they offer.
  • Nars creamy concealer in “Custard” here and Mac Prep and prime highlighter here blended with damp beauty blender (You can use either but the Mac prep and prime gives more of a brightened, highlighted effect)
  • Marcelle loose setting powder to set everything, gives a gorgeous, flawless smooth look here
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit to contour hollow of cheek bones here
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Tamanna palette...Fresh on lid to brow bone, Bengal in the crease, Noir on the lid and Sangria to blend out the harsh black lines in crease. You can keep adding more Sangria or Bengal and blending to get the desired look/color.
  • Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara (My go to all time fave) here
  • House Of Lashes “Iconic” lashes here
  • BHCosmetics/Carli Bybel pallete golden highlighter on cheek bones, tip of nose, lips (will be back in stock soon!) here Some alternative highlighters I am obsessed with and that are just as beautiful are here and here

Strobing and Arabic eye cut crease!

Hi beauties!!

I have been on a roll this week with makeup looks…YAY! I am definitely trying to keep these looks coming for you all, but sometimes it’s hard to think of ideas. It’s been pretty rainy in Vancouver and yesterday’s look was definitely inspired by the weather!!

I’ve been asked a few times about what “Strobing” is and it is basically just highlighting without the contour. This is the thing to do for fall and winter when your summer tan is fading. It’s perfect if you’re pale and don’t want to look too bronzed up but still glowy. You can apply a little bronzer if you wish but strobing will give you a light natural contour on it’s own. I personally add a bit of contour on myself as the rest of my body is naturally a yellowish/golden color.

It’s been a while since I have filmed a video and have been thinking about filming one on baking/strobing…what do you guys think?? :O)  Here is the look I created yesterday

IMG_1965

IMG_1963

So basically, the super highlighter areas (cheek bones, bridge of nose, inner corner of eyes, under eyes, lips and chin) are what you would call “strobing” like a strobe ball lol

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit to contour hollow of cheek bones here
  • BHCosmetics/Carli Bybel pallete golden highlighter on cheek bones, tip of nose, lips (will be back in stock soon!) here Some alternative highlighters I am obsessed with and that are just as beautiful are here and here
  • Eyeshadows are also from the Carli Bybel palette
  • Cut Crease line made with Smashbox black gel liner but you can use any gel liner, black eyeliner or eyeshadow with an angled brush.

It’s fall <3

Helloooo my lovely beautiful people!!

Thank you for stopping by! It is officially fall in Vancouver and I couldn’t be happier! Growing up in LA, I never experienced seasons and only knew heat and sunshine all year round. Obviously that isn’t a bad thing…I grew up on the beach and loved every minute of it. I was a sun worshipper (PS don’t be one, I know first hand that there are consequences :() BUT The change from summer to fall still gets me every time!! It’s so strange when it gets cold and rainy all of a sudden…I’m like whatttt is going on?!?! haha 😀 It did take me about 4 years to get used to the weather and to really learn to love the rain…but I am happy to say that I am officially a Vancouverite and absolutely love the rainy, gloomy weather:D

On that note, I’ve realized that moving to a new place really does test you and it changes you as a person…getting out of your comfort zone is important…it’s how we learn more about ourselves, who we are as people and all the things we are capable of doing, and being. It could be anything, such as learning a new language, taking the bus, going back to school, or picking up a new hobby. I highly recommend you lovelies get out of your comfort zone…even for a day. You’ll be shocked at what you find out about yourself;)
