How To: Grow thicker, longer lashes overnight!

Hi guys!

Thanks for stopping by ūüôā Today’s post is on how I get thicker, longer lashes overnight and naturally! I have seen countless products all over the internet claiming to make your lashes thicker and longer with ridiculous ingredients and even more ridiculous prices…and yes I fell victim to a few of those products…Lashem¬†anyone? :-/

I have been using this beauty hack for a long time to get thicker eyebrows due to the unfortunate hot “Thin brow” look of the 90’s lol! I over plucked my brows back then and found that the hairs never seemed to grow back. I began reading about Castor Oil¬†, which is derived from the castor seed, and how it contains very high concentrations of a special fatty acid called ricinoleic acid. It has been used for centuries internally and externally for its many health benefits. It also contains Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, Vitamin E and other moisturizing minerals. I thought to myself “What the heck?” it’s super cheap and natural so I started to slather Castor Oil¬†on my brows before I went to bed. I was literally AMAZED at how hair started growing back in one or two nights (I am not exaggerating guys). I found that I needed to pluck more often every time I used this phenomenal oil and decided to apply it nightly. After about a month of use, I noticed that my brows were remarkably thicker! I then began to apply it to my lashes and noticed almost immediate thickness overnight. Castor Oil is a Godsend for hair growth lol!

Before bed, I literally just use my finger to smooth a good amount of the oil over my brows and then rub some on the top of my lashes and lash line as well as underneath my lashes (like how you would apply mascara). Although you will see a difference overnight, this does require some commitment if you want to get the maximum benefit of the oil. I have made this a nightly routine and now it’s just habit before bed. The best way to see the difference in your lashes is if you put mascara on the day before you start…take a picture…then the following morning when you do your makeup, apply your mascara again and see the magic! It’s no joke!

The exact product I use is Home Health Cold Pressed Castor Oil which is only $12 for 32oz and literally has lasted me at least 2 years or even longer lol

Since we are on the topic of lashes, I will also share with you my FAVOURITE mascara…the Almay One Coat Mega Volume.¬†This very underrated mascara combined with the castor oil application nightly is life changing. You can find both of these products at the links I provided or at your local drugstore. Let me know if you are going to try this awesome beauty hack!

Wishing you beautiful, lush brows and lashes always

Everything SUNSCREEN!

(Photo above taken by me in French Polynesia)

Hi beauties!

Today’s post is ALL about SUNSCREEN! I’ve been meaning to write a post on sunscreen for a while now and with warmer weather just around the corner, this is the perfect time! I also get quite a few questions about sunscreen…This topic might sound pretty simple but it’s actually not LOL There are so many different types of sunscreens and ingredients out there and it’s important to know what products are actually effective at blocking those damaging UV rays.

Okay so I have a serious confession to make…I used to be a major sun worshipper :-O Being born and raised in the beach cities in sunny Los Angeles, it just felt normal. My grandmother actually TAUGHT me how to tan and lay out at the beach when I was just 7 or 8 years old (crazy and horrible I know). It became a habit. I NEVER wore sunscreen, I used to live in my swim suit and my skin was ALWAYS burned/tan. I actually thought that I had darker skin than I do naturally (I’m actually SUPER white)! I used tanning beds for years and years because being tan made me feel good! Unfortunately all of that sun tanning caught up with me and I developed a cancerous lesion on my leg. I had it removed and luckily it was just at the beginning stages. This was a SERIOUS wake up call for me. I began to study about UV rays and learned just how damaging they are to the skin and to the body. I kick myself thinking about all of the skin damage I brought on to myself…but hey we all make mistakes.

Although I made some not so smart choices in my younger years…the good news is that some sun damage is reversible with light and laser procedures and further damage can be prevented by using sunscreen and taking other precautionary methods.

There are TWO types of sunscreen that you can buy in stores:

Chemical Sunscreen: Products that absorb UV rays and prevent them from penetrating into the skin such as PABA and Oxybenzone

Physical or “Mineral” Sunscreen: Products that use UV filters that reflect, scatter and block the sun’s rays such as Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide

Research has shown that some chemical sunscreens cause allergic reactions, hormonal issues and other skin sensitivities. A good physical or “mineral” sunscreen with UV filters is the recommended choice as it sits on top of the skin and causes the least amount of irritation while protecting from both UVA and UVB rays. This is why you will find that most sunscreen for babies are physical ones as it provides the most protection and is the least irritating. It is still important to check with your dermatologist or skin expert to see which sunscreen is best for your lifestyle.

I have tried maaaaany sunscreens but when I tested ¬†the La Roche-Posay Anthelios mineral tinted SPF 50 I never looked back. I know this brand’s price point is a little steep BUT…It is a¬†100% physical “mineral” sunscreen with antioxidants to protect from environmental damage associated with atmospheric skin aging. It’s filled with good for skin ingredients, is lightly tinted, fast absorbing, non greasy, with ultra-light texture and a matte finish. It is perfect as a first step before makeup. The universal tint matches most skin tones and provides a natural glow. On days I want to go make-up free, I just put this on and it gives my skin such a beautiful, glowy, natural look with just the right amount of coverage. I have tried tinted sunscreens that have turned me orange or the tint was off, but with this sunscreen the color blends into the skin seamlessly. If you aren’t a fan of tint they also have the Anthelios mineral SPF 60 which is basically the same product but colorless….I use this one for my neck and chest so that I don’t transfer color onto my clothes.

If you prefer an easy one step foundation, moisturizing type of sunscreen (think all in one moisturizer, primer, foundation AND sunscreen) then the La Roche-Posay Mineral Sunscreen Tinted Primer is your best bet! This one is also pretty awesome. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to the anthelios, the Neutrogena Sheer SPF 50 is a great option!

On days I want even more coverage, I use the IT cosmetics full coverage CC cream SPF 50 over top to ensure that I am fully protected. This combination is amazing and gives such a beautiful, hydrated, glowy look to the skin which we are all so desperately after…right? ūüėĬ†It’s important to know that just because some make-up products have SPF in them does not mean that you should skip your sunscreen. Sunscreen is always number one then the¬†SPF in makeup is just an added bonus. According to directions, you are supposed to re-apply sunscreen every few hours if you are out in the sun…the BEST way I have found to do this without ruining my makeup is dust a translucent sunscreen powder on my face to keep everything looking fresh while protecting at the same time. The brand Colorescience has got this down to a T. I’m obsessed with this product!

All Products mentioned:

La Roche-Posay Anthelios mineral tinted SPF 50

La Roche-Posay Anthelios mineral SPF 60

La Roche-Posay Mineral Sunscreen Tinted Primer

Neutrogena Sheer SPF 50

IT cosmetics full coverage CC cream SPF 50

Eliminate Hormonal Acne Naturally!!! (For women)

Hello my beauties! I am actually VERY excited to write a blog post/review on this and have been wanting to do it for a while! Of course, I wanted to wait a few months to see if results were consistent and the product actually works…and let me tell you…it is absolutely AMAZING!

  • Before I start, I want to clearly state that I was not sponsored in any way to write about this product. This worked for me and I simply felt compelled to write a review in the hopes of helping other women who have been¬†battling hormonal acne

I have had hormonal acne for as long as I can remember. It started around the age of 20 and continued on until I started using¬†ESTROsmart by Lorna Vanderhaughe at the age of 28.¬†I can’t tell you how many times I cried over the horrific breakouts and cystic acne that just wouldn’t go away. I tried every single cream, pill, serum, face wash, spot treatment to washing my makeup brushes every other day, switching makeup products to even trying birth control in hopes of eliminating¬†the acne. NOTHING worked. I could never go out anywhere without makeup on and it was so frustrating. I¬†just kept packing on the foundation and powders¬†which in return clogged my pores and made things worse! Many people may be unaware, but severe acne can actually cause¬†low self-esteem,¬†depression, and social isolation!

I discovered ESTROsmart at the Vancouver Health Fair three months ago and have been taking it ever since. It took about three weeks before I started seeing actual results. After two months of consistently taking ESTROsmart, my acne completely disappeared, I have no more PMS symptoms or mood swings and no menstrual cramps. My skin has been clear including during that time of the month when acne is worse! This product has literally changed my life, increased my self esteem and has made that time of the month effortless.

FullSizeRender-8

The great thing about ESTROsmart is that not only does it help balance hormones and eliminate acne naturally, it also has some serious anti-cancer benefits:

  • Maintains healthy estrogen-to-progesterone balance
  • Protects and treats your fibrocystic breasts
  • Detoxifies toxic estrogens from plastics, pesticides, cosmetics and more
  • Halts abnormal cell growth, including breast lumps, fibroids, cysts, endometriosis, and thick uterine lining for those with PCOS and ovarian cysts
  • Halts conversion of good estrogens (2-hydroxyestrone) to bad estrogens (16-hydroxyestrone)
  • Eliminates PMS and makes periods effortless
  • Maintains healthy PAP smears

EACH 2 CAPSULES CONTAIN:

  • Calcium D-Glucarate:¬†is a powerful detoxifier of excess and toxic estrogens.
  • Indole-3-Carbinol:¬†is an anti-cancer plant nutrient found in cruciferous vegetables. Research has shown that I3C helps to break down cancer-causing estrogens into non-toxic forms. I3C maintains a healthy cervix, protects against HPV cervical lesions and controls abnormal cell growth found in those with uterine fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and breast lumps.
  • Green Tea Extract:¬†contains polyphenols, catechins and flavonoids shown to be protective against estrogen-related cancers.
  • Turmeric:¬†is the yellow pigment of turmeric. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and it works to inhibit all stages of cancer formation: initiation, promotion and progression. It also protects against inflammatory calcium loss from our bones and aids digestion.
  • Diindolymethane¬†(DIM):¬†helps to break down cancer-causing estrogens into non-toxic forms. DIM is one of the products created by the breakdown of I3C.
  • Rosemary Leaf Extract:¬†a potent antioxidant, protects cells from cancer-causing agents, inhibits the growth of cancer cells and helps to detoxify toxic estrogens.
  • Sulforaphane¬†(from BroccoPhane broccoli sprout extract) has been shown to stimulate the body’s production of detoxification enzymes that eliminate environmental estrogens. Sulforaphane is a powerful antioxidant and anti-cancer agent that also stops brown spots on the skin.

The price is a bit steep at $42¬†on Amazon and trust me I was skeptical at first as well….but I can’t rave about this product enough. It is for any woman who wants to balance hormones naturally without having to be on birth control. ESTROsmart can be found in any nutrition store in Canada. For my readers who are outside of Canada, you can purchase this on Amazon here. I sincerely hope this helps some of you ladies out there who are battling with hormonal acne. I definitely feel your pain!!!
